Finding Books - General/World History

CBC Library Catalog: The subject terms applied most often are:

Adding one of these to a search including the name of a country or region will present you with a list of books, ebooks, videos, and other items in the Library's collections. For instance, a search on 'antiquities america'

- will provide hundreds of titles related to the prehistory of the americas.

ACLS Humanities E-Books: A project of the American Council of Learned Societies, contains a growing collection of over 1200 scholarly titles selected by noted historians. Expanding coverage of nearly all time periods and locations. May be browsed by subject, or for highly specific topics you may wish to search the full text.

Ebrary holds over 18,000 recent ebooks, many from university and other scholarly publishers. As with the ACLS titles it is possible to perform a keyword search on the full text of all volumes. It is also possible to do an 'advanced' search on the subjects of the books and produce a list of titles to browse; for instance, a search on 'history' and 'united states' offers over 870 titles.

Journal Articles - General/World History

If you don't have a topic selected you may browse history journals by using Journal Finder to view the full text titles in the subject area History and Archaeology. This subject area is further broken down by regions and countries, although it is important to realize that many history journals cover a wide range of countries, time periods, and subjects. This might be assumed with titles such as:
The Historian
but it is also the case for
American Historical Review, the official publication of the American Historical Association, which includes scholars of all history in all time periods and regions.

It is possible to search EBSCOhost for all the scholarly articles from either history journals or dealing with history subjects. This search can then be modified to focus on a particular topic, country, or region.

Facts.com: Online, expanded version of the Facts-on-File World News Digest, with coverage of the modern world from 1940 to present. Gale Virtual Reference - History & Culture Encyclopedias and dictionaries covering the history of the World, Prehistory - Modern. Includes the history of ideas, religions and many other cultural aspects.
